if u can fit sad lyrics in than u can use them, im rubbish at lyrics thats why i gave up on these songs for ages. Everything i write comes out really really awful. Usually i can hear straight away how a song is goin to turn out in my head as soon as I listen to it. These 2 should be grand. the 2 i struggled with were take this a pain away and heart of stone which turned out to be 2 of my favourites.

oh yeah, away from you is perfect, the other older metal song. the one in B with the triplety chorus. i'll upload it again... its the kinda long heavy one. Or do you remember the song you uploaded just called "another", do you have the chord list for that as i think that would work very well for it. last goodbye : on 03.46 it is a guitarr thing that shouldnet be there before the "real" guitarr starts take this pain away: from the beginning there is a guitarr sound too..but i kind of like it if you should do like that on the hole intro? time is standing still: there is still some problems with my voice on the first verse i sing you keep on screaming out your name instead of I...so i have to change that, and then on the chourus its to much when i sing "forget the past" away from here: sounds great except the opera part is not on the right rythm its comming in a little bit to late

thats cool. btw when your exporting audio files could you export them from the start of the track if that makes sense, it makes it easier for me to line things up in the mix. not at home till tomorrow, more darts. but i'll mix it in new opera vox when ready. you won't have to re-sing heart of stone, i'll just remove a compressor or up the de-esser on the vox, might slightly change the tone but should be fine.

i will try to make the opera better on away from here...i havent came up with a name for the song yet..maybe we can call it away from you..cause thats what its about heart of stone : do i have to re-sing everything? i might have recording to loud and thats why my breathing can be heard or can you fix it ? and about the instrumental part i like it but i think it could be better if you take away the last "round" take this pain away , yes try to make the piano intro more dynamic its sounds a little bit flat now..try to make it "blend" more into the song.. i havent heard that strings are missing on time is standing still until now...and yes it sounds weird :p haha...but i think its just missing on the intro ? and about addictiv pain .. ithink youre right it doesnt fit in to the other music so i agree we can skip that song . this is going to be a killer album :p

notes- away from here drums are too low by a tad. vox are too a tiny bit too loud bass a tad too loud. lead guitar is a good bit too loud and has a bum note right before the chorus intro guitar needs fixing. first 2 words of opera are a tad weak (maybe re-record just opera part) intro run of solo is too low, solo guitar needs lp and hp filters. Heart of Stone Guitars are too "boxy" sounding needs much more eq. drums ride cymbal is too loud, kick drum is too metal? lots of breathing noises on vox (maybe i should use less compression?) 1st chorus vox are kinda rushed. lead guitar is far too loud in break and last chorus. do you think the instumental part is too long, maybe once through the chord progression? drums are a tad loud over last chorus. Take this pain away. Intro piano needs to be more dynamic? chorus lead guitar is too loud again (seems to be a recurring problem with me lol). Everything else seems really good even the programmed drums. i love the way you sing the first line of the last chorus, Brilliant. The guitars maybe fade out a bit too quickly at the end and kinda leave the vox just hanging there. time is standing still. strings are missing over the Bb chord in intro, which is weird. clean guitar should be double tracked and panned off like the heavy guitars. clean guitar sound needs to be changed, its too dull. synth is a tad too low on chorus and suprise, suprise lead guitar is a touch too loud. Harmonies would sound great in the chorus. Volume is all over the place in solos i think theres a slow fade going on around 3.37 thats making the volume fade slowly, which is weird but probably just a silly mistake i made. the part at 1.25 sounds fake i think because of the v-vocal fx, i'll just remove them as it seemed to make take this pain away too pitchy as well. addictive pain, i've being listening back to this and it just doesn't sound right in its current state, theres a couple of parts i like but its not really suited to the project, should i write a new verse and 2nd part of the chorus? plus i think the whole middle section with crazy dreamtheater drums has to go? Tbh I'm half tempted to scrap the entire songs. its like its doesn't fit with the rest of the songs. What do you guys think. So we've got 5 songs almost finished. Whether or not we use AP, we've got the metal song, i've got another im still working on and the one you uploaded called another which take us to 8 or 9 if we stay with AP. I may use one of the old songs as i uploaded as well as my old singer is coming round to the idea, so that would be 10. I think we should aim for 12 for now, than we can start promoting the hell out of it lol.

you can try harmonies if you like than i can pan them off and fill the center with the 3 main voc tracks on each. that way i could use the best takes from each part and fade in and out the good parts. You can re-sing whatever your not happy with as it only takes me one second to swap one vocal track for another. Same goes for harmonies, try whatever you like as if it doesn't work we can just delete it and if it does than it makes everything better. Im gonna listen back through them now more carefully that my ears have had a rest and see what i think needs tweaking.

now it starting to sound great except that i heard that i done some misstakes Last goodbye sounds awsome heart of stone too except the first chourus is a little bit out of rythm i think the other two choruses were good i have to listen again Time is standing still: sounds good except that i have to re sing some places ..i heard that i sang "you keep showing up alwayays in your dreams"...insted of "in my dreams" and on the first "i spend my life" (01.25) it didnt sound good my voice sounded a little bit "false" and then 02.35 were i sang "the past" i sang to fast it sounds a little bit to "ruschy" and on 03.37 the music getting ,more quiet and take this pain away sounds great and so is away from here You are doing a great job :)

i love the opera, sounds like after forever or epica. Its great in the background, I'm not a huge fan of it up front all the time ala Nightwish but it works brilliantly there. If you sang the opera out front for the 2nd part of the chorus where you have it as backing it'd be a nice change and add something different maybe remove the normal rock vox on that part or I could mix them as the backing. Great stuff, did you use the same lyrics on the 2 metal songs? I really like them over the away from here one. Sounds great. You can delete the take this pain away files as long as your happy with the mix. it sounds even better mastered, way louder and blends much more as does Last Goodbye. I've almost finished Heart of Stone as well and its sound very good too run through the mastering chain. If Neantank doesn't mind we can push on with the songs, using my programmed drums until he gets time and than replace mine with his when he gets them recorded as I've got the process of changing them fairly streamlined now.

Have Heart of Stone almost complete too, than it'll just be a matter of swapping out one drum midi file for another. Seems the simplest way. I wish lol, they'll all sound much, much better when we're done. they still need editing, basically alligning the guitars and vocals to the grid, than I need to re-do bass tracks especially on heart of stone as the one I've recorded is horrid. Atm all the really are is guide tracks for the drums. Im just waiting on the drum tracks before I can push on, so they're as finished as I can for now as if I allign/quantise them now, when NT tracks the drums I may have to start moving things around again re-mix depending on the tracks and possibly re-record the guitars. its easier to leave all that until I have the final drum files if that makes sense as sometimes the drums dictate the guitar riffs. With last Goodbye, I completely changed the guitar riff after getting the drums from NT as his drums suited the song more than the guitar part. With take this pain away, the song has a fairly loose ballad feel so it doesn't need to be tracked as tightly and I won't need to quantisie or allign any of it as having ballads sound too tight can kill all the emotion. All the vocal tracks will end up as tight and sound almost the same as on Last Goodbye when we get there. Once I have all the final files I can really start mixing and using fx, eq etc... thats the part that takes most time, I must have spent 30 hours mixing and tweaking Last Goodbye. The others won't take as long though as I have the basic template and know exactly how much reverb suits your voice etc...

thanks guys, glad you guys like it. I thought it might be too heavy for what we're going for. NT, we have all the time in the world so theres no worries about the drums, once we get everything finished and up to date i'll have to fix the mixes and master etc... so more than likely it'll be autumn before we're complete anyway. I managed to condense the whole song into less than 6 minutes, had to cut out some of my favourite bits lol, but the way it is now we have intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, melody, solo, bridge, chrous. Makes it much more of a song and it flows much better. bridge starts around 4.35.

The new song is awesome. The new drum stuff you got is working well. lol... don't even need me anymore. :P You're definitely getting good with the production side of things too. This is the first one I don't have a critical opinion on. Mix is perfect.. everything is balanced and clear. Good job. The weather was nice Saturday, so I ended up using the time to finish the deck. I think I need to be rich, and stop working so much. :( Like I said before, if all else fails, I can play catch up during my time off in July. I will try to work on stuff between now and then though if I can find time. That is if you still want me to.. :P I'm not sure I could even add anything to the new song. It sounds great as is.

atm theres no middle section i've only completed 2 verses and 2 chorus. its got a long intro the first verse starts at 1.15 after the keyboard theres a heavy guitar riff, that goes once and than the verse comes in over the same riff the next 2 times. the pre-chorus comes in over the classical chords (1.38) and the chorus is the triplety bit after the keyboard plays the run on its own (1.52). than theres the keyboard riff again, one take of the metal riff and the 2nd verse comes in at (2.49) and the rest is the same til the end of the 2nd chorus, the last 16 bars (3.49) are for a lead break Atm I'm working on a clean verse for the 3rd verse so it doesn't get too boring for the length a final chorus and a really hard instrumental section to finish. It'll probably clock in at 9 minutes or so but I can make an edit so we have a short version and a long one, lots that can be cut out if that makes sense

hi lingah could you upload a rough mix of time is standing still as i can't seem to allign the vocals. the way i was planning it was verse 1 at 0.26, chorus 1 at 1.02, verse 2 at 1.39, chorus 2 at 2.14, solo at 2.50, middle 8 at 3.26, chorus 3 @3.53 and than just keep singing hte chorus after the modulation so I can fade it out.

yeah there tubular bells lol. thought it would be a bit different to the acoustic lol. With regards time - I have a version where the synths are replaced by acoustic guitar and strings, plus some piano, much more organic, i'll upload that too and see what you guys think, maybe find a happy medium

'Heart of Stone' = awesome. Are those bells? lol.. love it. I think if anything the bass could stand out a bit more in the mix. Maybe throw in a bass solo? :P 'Time'.. I actually liked the intro. Maybe use a different synth sample or something, and play with the panning/effects because it does sound a little cheezy. It might be a bit long too, but I liked the idea. It reminded me of 'Owl City', one of my favorite bands of late. I think for such a long song though, the same synth stuff gets old. Mix it up a bit more, keep it interesting or fade it farther to the back of the mix during the guitar stuff. Try some different samples maybe for other parts... Also, some other suggestions might be to automate the volume a bit lower when the other instruments come in at the beginning, and EQ the high end down a bit. The high pitch buzzing kinda grates your ears after six minutes. :P Anyway, those are my thoughts. I like the idea. I might have some time tonight to work on drums again.. we'll see. Been trying to paint the deck lately too. But the rain isn't on my side.

about time is standing still..i dont like the start it almost sound like a video game ..ninitendo :p but i like the guitarr alot that starts after one minute...so dont change the guitarr cause that sounds great..and the solo part is great..:) maybe its a little bit to long its alomost 6 minutes ..or what do you think? and for heart of stone sounds great...so i think the music backroand should be like that..but i do have to change my voice cause it sounds crappy and false on some places...and the chourus i need to change to make another suitible song...but it sounds great except my voice that i have to re sing

'Last Goodbye' - The drums definitely fit the mix better now. I'll be happy with it. :) And no worries with add. pain. I uploaded a sample so that you guys could be picky. Without the vox in there, it's much easier to re-track now. I brought the drums forward in the mix I uploaded so you could hear what I was doing better. It might not be so distracting if it was farther back in the mix. I don't mind changing it though. I don't have to work Saturday, so I'll try to edit and finish it then. And I'll have to look into those vst's you mentioned. Thanks for the info.

can't upload files at the minute sorry guys, something is wrong with the website. Lingah - I've written a new chorus for Heart of Stone, much slower paced and less cheesy than the old one, makes the song more ballady, but the tempos are the same. Could you re-track the vocals using the old version. The problem i have is they are all in one file and i can't mix them. If you could re-track one main vocal and 2 backing/harmony tracks like you did with last goodbye i'd be able to edit them and chop and change fx, panning etc... NT - I like what your going for with addictive pain, the only thing is the fast piece over the pre-chorus "i will fight"... piece, it seems to distract the listener from the vocals if that makes sense, is there any chance you could play something that follows the guitars and bass (kinda simular to what i programmed but better.) as thats the only real part of the song thats melodic and where the vocals really dominate. Sorry about being so picky.

no bother nt, i'll try a few different drum sounds here and we'll go with what your prefer, i'll send you the edited midi and you can go off that as well, maybe blending 2 would work and be fuller. For my guitar - Im using an Ibanez Jem into a roland vg99 pedal to get di's, than i'm using vsts in the fx section of sonar to get the actual sound. You can google them to get them and the best thing is they are free. My chain is usually, tss (tubescreamer vst) - Nick Crow 8505 (which is a free peavey 5150 vst) or Revolutionz amp pluging (mesa boogie emulation i think) - into Kefir1.2 (which loads impulses - and than I use a combination either catharsis awesometime impulses or guitarhacks impulses. Just google and download the above. Takes a bit of space but they are great quality and free. On Last Goodbye its tss-8505-kefir with catharsis impulse, double tracked and panned hard left and right.

'Last Goodbye'.. The drums sound kinda shallow compared to the rest of the mix. :( The rest of the mix is sounding awesome though. Would you mind sending me the midi file so I can run it through my drum module and see if I can get anything that better matches the mix? If you guys like it, that's fine.. I just think they could sound better. 'Take This Pain Away' sounds awesome. Good job with the vocals. Love it. I'm gonna work on 'Add. Pain' a bit tonight.. I might have Saturday off after all.. Guess we'll see. Oh.. and just curious.. How are you recording your electric? The quality is awesome. I've had trouble getting good tone when I record my electric. i use to go in here at least once a day to check it out since i dont get mail eather from here:s and about the mono thing..I´m not sure what you mean with that and how i should do it ? so you have to explain? and upload the songs whenever you want ...you can upload them and i´m not gonna do anything before the other songs are finish but i can still listen and start working with lyrics to them ..so it would be good if you uploaded them anyway:)

That's one of the biggest issues I've had with my E-kit, since its older the pads don't trigger as well anymore. If I don't turn the sensitivity up a little bit, I get missing notes instead of double notes. The audio wasn't double triggering, but I did notice the midi double triggering. I can turn it down a bit, see if that helps. I've been thinking about getting some triggers for my acoustic kit, and running them through my module. They aren't too expensive, but I don't know if they'll work any better. Lol @ the 500 gig thing. I only have 40 gig on my cpu. I just bought a 500 gig external hard drive to free up some of my space. I might also be working 12 hour days and Saturdays till the end of the month too I just found out. :( And a new band I just joined wants to record stuff too. So I'm kinda swamped as well. I'll try to get drums done though. Even if its sub-par tracking. I can get it done enough to edit for you. I know its a pain having to write out drums in midi. I do have two weeks off at the beginning of July though, so just in case I don't get to it before then. I will have time eventually. I noticed the email thing too.. haven't been getting updates either.

for some reason i've stopped getting mails off this site and i thought you guys had given up lol. I'll try and get it uploaded tonight if I can Neantank. I'm off with the county playing darts tomorrow so if i don't it'll be tuesday at best. Lingah i'll have tracks for you Tuesday as well, sorry about the delay, glad you enjoyed the holiday. gonna try and get moving again with these, I'll get a bit done this week but I'm also finishing up scoring a horror movie which is taking alot of my music time atm, the producer/director is a good friend of mine and sends alot of work my way so I kinda have to bow to his demands and he is really, really picky. but I'll be back at full pace by monday week at the latest. I'll have something for you both before than. Heres what we have so far. 1 - Last Goodbye - practically finished, a little bit more drum editing and still tweaking the guitar sound. 2 - Addictive Pain - song, lyrics, structure and vox are finished, when NT finishes the drums, I'll retrack the guitars and bass, will probably take a week as this being so heavy it needs quad tracking. Than lots of editing, fx and general production. 3 - Take this pain away - as above, need to retrack everything after drums plus i need to write some small complimentray orchestral parts and finish the intro. 4 - Heart of Stone - Finished reworking the chrous so this will be uploaded for both of you guys on Tuesday at hte latest. 5 - Time is Standing Still - I have a verse, chorus and middle section complete, having trouble trying to come up with a guitar part thats not just powerchords and is a little more interesting, plus I'm not sure whether to run with or without keys. Along with that I've got a couple more demo's of my own for you guys to work with and the last file Ligah uploaded. Ive got ideas for these (i'll upload them for you Lingah to work on while we catch up) but don't wanna push too far ahead, my harddrive is full with about 500gb of audio files and i'm running outta space lol, so I think we should target getting the above done and dusted and than move on. Another pro for doing this is when we have 5 songs complete bar mastering, i can simply delete everything off here and free up alot of space for the next 5. One or two other points guys, Lingah if you could record your vox in mono and export in mono it would be a big help, it saves space and allows me to do more processing on the track without eating my cpu. Sorry about the lack of stuff for you to record at the moment, I'm just absolutely swamped. NT - One thing I noticed was i was getting alot of double notes off your midi drums. I was talking to a pro-engineer and he reckons that the sensitivity on your kit may be too high so some of the notes are coming out twice. Your track sounds great though, now its process and edited, i'll upload a sample of that too when I'm uploading this evening. Sorry about the essay guys, getting carried away typing.

yeah i think i'll have to use automation on the vox as if i compress it more to fix the levels it loses alot of dynamics. Its time consuming so it may take awhile but I'll get on it asap. Have to tweak volumes a word at a time takes awhile but I'll get it done. I can set up the myspace if your stuck and send you guys the username, password and details, may take awhile though as I haven't alot of free time.

yup no bother. i'll try that and see how it works out. maybe keep the first verse acoustic and than rock it up from the first chorus to see how it goes. the piano is for take this pain away as it sounds much better with real playing, i'll put some strings and guitar in the background to help with timing and such. hi guys, looks like we'll only be doing addictive pain as well for now. the old singer wants to use the 2 other tracks in her new band and I got well paid for them. I'm busy writing more though so I should have another for when we finish AP. Lingah, you must be bored senseless, I'm having a bit of trouble with AP as I lost all my original seperate tracks and i'm writing essentially the same song again from scratch. Shouldn't be too long though.

It seems I can't upload midi files on here. If you give me your email in a private message I can send you the midi file as an attachment. Or I can set up a dropio page or something. Also, when I went to export the midi file, it asked if I wanted to export as 'type 0' or 'type 1'. Do you know what the difference is? Does it matter which I export it as? The second take isn't perfect. Let me know if you need anything changed. I'm kind of frustrated with my electric kit because I feel like I can't do this song justice with it. There's things that I just can't do on the E-kit that I can on an acoustic kit. (fast tom fills for one, and soft snare rolls without the 'machine gun' effect like I tried to do on the first verse of the new mix for another) Hopefully the midi will help in that area. Maybe eventually I'll be able to afford to mic my acoustic kit. Gotta get by with what I've got for now though. The new mix you loaded is sounding pretty awesome. Only suggestion I have for it might be centering the ensemble string, and panning the low and hi end of the keys slightly left and right. It just sounds strange to me having the strings panned hard right like that. Other than that its sounding really good. One other trick that might sound good is duplicating the string track, and panning them hard left and right. Then adding a slightly different room/reverb effect to them. Might sound interesting. ...or centering just the one track, and adding a delay pan/chorus effect. That might sound cool too. I'm full of ideas. lol.. and yeah, the mid/low's are still slightly muddy.

Well, I figured out how to record in midi. I also figured out how to record audio and midi simultaneously. Would you have any use for the audio file too, or do you only want the midi? I'm still kind of lost with editing the midi files. Think I'll just leave that to you since you have more experience with it. I started recording some tonight. I was getting frustrated though because my tom pads are old and don't trigger as well anymore. Its been a long stressful day too. I'll try to finish it tomorrow.

no bother mate, the clipping is probably the chopping i used on the guitars, i'll fade them on the final version as i'm retracking them again to get them tighter whent the drums are done. I think its easier to record guitar on top of drums than vice versa.

Hmm.. I still hear a lot of clipping in there. Maybe it wasn't all from the drums. I usually fade the clips that are causing it or automate the volume when I get clipping like that from re-arranging.. Also, could I get a version without the vocals too. It helps me stay tighter with the instruments.

I went to the music store tonight and they didn't have what I needed. :( They did however have and awesome acoustic drum kit set up that I jammed on for awhile. That was fun. Anyway, I'll probably have to order a cable/interface online. May take some time to get here. I might just try it without the midi cable. Or just work on that other project until it arrives. We'll see.

The version just has the two acoustic guitar tracks and the bass track. I hadn't intended to add drums to it. Maybe some hand percussion stuff. I don't know. We'll see. You may have to alter the lyrics, or change the way you sing the song to fit; or just write all new lyrics for it. Up to you. Getting bored? :) I'm planning to head into town tonight or tomorrow afternoon to pick up a midi cable. I decided it'd be easier to hold off recording till then for both of us. I'm still waiting for the drum free version of the 4th mix anyway. Can't do much until then. Also, I don't know if you would want it or not, but I EQ'd and cleaned up that first mix I did from the 'addicted' project a bit. My wife wanted to put a clip of it on her website because she liked the finger picking on the verses. It's the slow version that you couldn't sing to originally. I can post it in a new project if you want it. Maybe you could sing a remixed acoustic version or something. Let me know.

I like the arrangement much better on the 4th mix. The guitar sounds like it fits in the mix better too. Not as muddy. The timing is very choppy, and there's a lot of clipping, probably a result of slicing and re-arranging the drums. If you upload a 4th mix without the drums, I'll re-record to make it smoother and keep it the same as you have it arranged. We can wait until I get a midi cable too if you'd like.

I'll look into getting a midi cable. I know it would make editing stuff a whole lot easier for you. It's been a long time since I've worked with any midi stuff. I'll have to figure it out again. I live in a small town with no music stores. So I'll have to order something online or go to the nearest town this weekend. I do also have like 500 samples on my drum module. I can upload some different samples for you in the mean time. I have some more realistic sounding kits on there.

Lingah - I can rearrange the song easily, so you just want the same parts but with the timing you suggested? I like the idea so far, I can change the part at 1.16 to something simular and than bring the riff your singing over at 59-1.16 back, so you get a break before the 2nd verse. Or I could just double the length of the riff from 0.59 to 1.32 or there abouts and do the exact same thing with 2nd verse and chorus before the break with the mad drumming. Or do you want me to write any new parts, like a new 2nd chorus before the riff Neantank - Is there anyway you could get me a midi or something of those drums so i could mix the electric sound off your kit with real samples than blend them both to get a real strong feel to the drums.

nean tank- im just going to change the structure slightly so wanna copy and paste some bits is all, nothing major. i'll work with it as is. lingah - i'll fix the timing on vox in final mix. i like the way it comes across with the lyrics as are. its adds a european flavour too it and reminds me of some of my favourite bands. Gives it a certain vibe ala early Sonata Arctica or something.

weird i dont get information when this project is updated ...i thought this project been quit for a while..but i was wrong :p nice work...but i think the vocie comes in a little bit to late...i know my english can be a little bit europe english :p but you can change the lyrics so it would be better ..and i got to improve my english too :D haha so tell me if i should change anything

I don't know what software you use, but my software has an audio quantizer that allows you to match the hit points to the tempo. It only lets me do it up to ten measures though because its a trial version. Maybe yours can do the whole track? I would be willing to re-do whatever you'd like changed time permitting too. I'm still planning on fixing the end. Let me know measure to measure or time to time what you'd like tightened up. I might just redo the song without the vocals. I know they were throwing me off in some places because they were louder in the mix, and not necessarily on tempo as vocals tend to be.

Unfortunately, I'm using the master outs on my electric kit to record with. I don't have a midi cable yet to multi-track.

hi mate, just wondering could you upload the drum tracks seperate, like one for the kick, one for snare etc.. as i want to edit them a bit if its ok as im messing with the structure of the song and trying to tighten everything up.

Sorry it took so long. The end is still a bit rough. Wish I had a double pedal to work with there. I'll over-dub a new take when I get a chance. I'm auditioning for a new band and have a lot of material to learn. That's why I've been so busy. Probably for the best that you mix it anyway. You had that in your 'open positions' tab, that's why I offered. It would be tedious to explain the effects and what I'm hearing. I'm sure you'll do a fine job in any case. (It already sounds pretty awesome as is) The only thing that stands out in the mix to me is that the guitar seems kind of muddy through much of the song. Could be EQ'd better maybe. Sounds like its drop tuned? Seems to conflict with the bass frequencies in many places. Awesome solo at the end btw.

Hey, just letting you know I've been working on the drums, and its coming along well. I have some ideas for effects and stuff to give the song that 'extra something'. I'm pretty good at EQ'ing and mixing. If you'd like me to work with that stuff too, I'll need the individual tracks. I'm really liking this song. I'll try to get the drums finished by tomorrow night, been busy lately.
